Stanford Weekend Itinerary



Enjoy one of the many restaurants in Stanford or pack a bottle of bubbly and a picnic and watch the sun go down on the banks of the river. If it’s the last Friday of the month, the Stanford Sunset Market should be on the Village Green, weather permitting.


Breakfast in Stanford

The Saturday Morning Market for fresh bakes, home grown vegetables, cold meats, salami, jam, cakes, pies and cheese. The market takes place on the veranda of The Stanford Hotel from 09.00 to noon Saturdays only. Pop in at The Petite Wine Shop where you can buy select wines from Stanford’s local wine estates, at cellar price.


Visit the vintage strip along Queen Victoria Street. Explore Tat, The Stanford Trading Store, Sir Robert Stanford’s Home of Crafts & Antiques for a fabulous selection of antiques, enamelware and bric-a-brac and Mebel for antiques, collectables and second hand furniture.


Explore the Stanford Wine Route! Head to a wine-tasting at Raka, Stanford Hills and Sir Robert Stanford Estate. Order a picnic from Kleinriver Cheese and book a boat trip down the river with The African Queen or The Lady Stanford.


Dinner in Stanford is a casual affair! La Trattoria is situated directly across the road from the Stanford Hotel. Their menu is authentic Italian and they are licensed. No corkage permitted.


Go for an early morning ride with African Horse Company, on the beach in the Gansbaai area. Phone to book 082 667 9232. Go for a hike at Phillipskop Mountain Reserve. Book 073 621 1808. Go Mountain bike riding / running / walking or strolling. Ask at the Stanford Hotel reception if you require additional details.


A gelato is recommended for breakfast on Sunday mornings. The Don Gelato kiosk is situated next to La Trattoria opposite the Stanford Hotel. Also open for breakfast is OuMeul Bakery and The Zesty Lemon at Sir Robert Stanford Estate.
